In my artistic research the act of erasing and consuming the image has always been an action to deconstruct what culture has sedimented within us over time, trying to free it from its conditioning.
The work “La Parte per il tutto” (The part for everything) also has to do with deletions, with the decision of what and how much to show to the observer. However in this case the cancellation is not given by subtraction, rather by accumulation. What fascinates me is that the complexity that each image is only partially returned as a recognizable detail; the remaining information is only imaginable, because it is forced to pile up rather than distribute itself in the available space.
For this work I used photographs from my archive, without any particular reference to a specific period or geographical area. When I choose an image, I already make a decision about which part of the landscape to show.
We are not simply faced with a dialogue between presence and absence, but between presence and illegibility. Too much information makes the image unreadable in its totality: the reference is made to the excess from which we are plagued by every day, by cultural, computer based, mass media consumerism that oppresses us and distances us more and more from the essence of the phenomena.
